Product Description
The AS-0420-2ZI consists of a threaded nut element held captive within a stationary outer retainer. This unique design allows the internal nut to "float" a total of 0.030 in (0.76 mm) (moving 0.015 in in any direction from the center). This float is essential for simplifying the assembly of large panels or complex components where precision alignment of multiple holes is difficult to maintain.
Constructed from heat-treated carbon steel, the fastener is installed by being pressed into a properly sized round hole in the host sheet. The clinching process causes the sheet material to cold-flow into an undercut, locking the retainer securely and permanently into the panel. The "ZI" finish provides zinc plating with a clear trivalent chromate for RoHS-compliant corrosion protection. The shank code "2" indicates it is designed for installation in sheets with a minimum thickness of 0.054 in (1.38 mm).
Misalignment Compensation: The 0.030" total float reduces labor time and assembly rejects by allowing the nut to move to meet the mating screw.
Captive Hardware: The nut remains trapped within the retainer after installation, preventing loose parts from falling into sensitive electrical or mechanical systems.
High Performance: Provides high torque-out and pushout resistance, ensuring the fastener remains secure during high-vibration use or heavy-duty assembly.
Flush Reverse Side: The back of the panel remains flush after installation, allowing for clean exterior aesthetics and unhindered movement of adjacent parts.
