The AS-832-2ZI utilizes a two-piece captive design consisting of a threaded nut element held within a stationary outer retainer. This configuration allows the internal nut to "float" a total of 0.030 in (0.76 mm)—moving up to 0.015 in in any direction from the center. This feature is critical for streamlining the assembly of components where precise hole alignment between mating parts is difficult to maintain.
