Product Description
The AS-M4-2ZI features a two-piece captive design: a threaded nut element held within a stationary outer retainer. This configuration allows the internal nut to "float" a total of 0.76 mm (moving 0.38 mm in any direction from the center). This float is a critical feature for simplifying the assembly of components where precise hole alignment between multiple parts is difficult to maintain.
Constructed from heat-treated carbon steel, the fastener is permanently installed by being pressed into a properly sized round hole in the host sheet. During installation, the sheet material cold-flows into an undercut in the retainer, locking it securely and leaving the reverse side of the panel flush. The "ZI" finish provides zinc plating with a clear trivalent chromate for RoHS-compliant corrosion protection. The shank code "2" indicates it is designed for installation in sheets with a minimum thickness of 1.38 mm.
Misalignment Compensation: The 0.76 mm total float reduces assembly time and prevents part damage caused by forced alignment of mismatched holes.
Captive Hardware: The nut remains trapped within the retainer after installation, ensuring no loose hardware can fall into sensitive electronic or mechanical systems.
High Performance: Provides significantly higher torque-out and pushout resistance compared to standard tapped holes in thin sheets.
Flush Profile: The reverse side of the panel remains completely flush after installation, maintaining clean exterior aesthetics and allowing for tight-fitting mating components.
